San Pedro Regalado, patrón de Valladolid, se formó como fraile en el eremitorio de El Abrojo, en Laguna de Duero. El “abrojo” es en palabras de la RAE: «Planta espinosa de la familia de las cigofiláceas, perjudicial para los sembrados». La leyenda dice que su nombre deriva de la expresión latina aperi oculos (abre los ojos, ¡cuidado!), que es lo que se advertirían unos segadores a otros para no pincharse con estas incómodas plantas.
